Notice is hereby given that the Kaua’i County Council will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., or soon thereafter, at the Council Chambers, 4396 Rice Street, Room 201, Historic County Building, Lihu’e, on the following:

A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTERS 15, 12, AND 8,
KAUA’I COUNTY CODE 1987, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO WILDFIRE AND WILDLAND URBAN INTERFACE (WUI) (County of Kaua’i, Applicant) (ZA-2026-6)

This Bill proposes to establish Wildfire and Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) (also known as Wildland Urban Interface) standards by amending Chapter 15, Kaua’i County Code 1987, as amended, relating to General Provisions Relating to Building and Construction Regulations, Chapter 12, relating to the Building Code, and Chapter 8, relating to the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance (CZO), in order to enhance public safety, reduce property loss, and protect lives from wildfire hazards. Amendments are proposed to land use and building definitions, setbacks and defensible space standards, and other requirements as provided in detail in the Bill.

Any person may testify at the public hearing, and at any Council and Committee Meeting (at which time any Bill may be amended). Meeting notices and full-text Bills are available at least six (6) days in advance at the Office of the County Clerk, Council Services Division and kauai.gov/Government/Council/Webcast-Meetings.
