NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Forestry and Wildlife, is authorized to manage and regulate public lands set apart as forest reserves as detailed in Chapter 183, Hawaii Revised Statues (HRS). Pursuant to Sections 183-12 and 183-13, HRS, DLNR hereby provides notice of public hearing for two proposed changes affecting the area of government forest reserve lands on the island of Hawaii:
1. Withdrawal of Tax Map Key (3) 4-4-016: portion of 003 and 4-4-016: portion of 012 comprising approximately 2.9 acres from Mauna Kea Forest Reserve, Kaohe IV, Hamakua, Hawaii, and set aside to the Department of Transportation for construction of a highway maintenance baseyard.
2. Withdrawal of Tax Map Key (3) 4-4-016: portion of 003, Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area, from the Mauna Kea Forest Reserve, Kaohe IV, Hamakua, Hawaii, comprising of approximately 32.572 acres and set aside to the County of Hawaii for park purposes.
DLNR will hold a public hearing to discuss the proposed Forest Reserve System changes at 6:00 pm, June 26, 2019, at the Hawaii Island Division of Forestry and Wildlife Conference Room, 19 E. Kawili Street, Hilo, Hawaii, 96720.
All interested persons are urged to attend the public hearing to present relevant information and individual opinion for the DLNR to consider. Persons unable to attend or wishing to present additional comments may email written testimony to forestry@hawaii.gov or mail written testimony postmarked no later than July 10, 2019 to Forestry Program Manager, Division of Forestry and Wildlife, 1151 Punchbowl St., #325, Honolulu, HI 96813.
