Hawaiian Electric is a public utility that provides electricity service to the island of Oahu. On May 3, 2023, Hawaiian Electric filed an Application, which was revised on March 8, 2024, requesting that the Commission: (1) approve the commitment of approximately $9,833,040 in funds for the PE005766-Farrington Highway Widening Project (“Project”); (2) determine that the Project’s 46 kV line relocations, as described in the Application, be constructed above and below the surface of the ground, pursuant to HRS § 269-27.6; and (3) conduct a public hearing pursuant to HRS § 269-27.5 for the permanent overhead and underground relocation of an existing 46kV overhead and underground sub-transmission line through a residential area. According to Hawaiian Electric, the Project also involves the installation of one new 138kV pole which is in the same alignment with the existing 138kV overhead lines and will not require new 138kV conductors, among other things.
