This publication is to advise you the Department of Taxation’s Special Enforcement Section is hereby issuing you a Written Warning that your ad for the rental of transient accommodations, which appeared on the Airbnb web platform https://www.airbnb.com, has been found to be in violation of HRS 237D-4(c)(1).
You have fifteen (15) days from the date of this notice to update all online listing platforms you use, including Airbnb, to include in your advertisement the valid Transient Accommodations Tax ID number that you use to file and pay tax in Hawaii. If you fail to do so, you may be cited under HAR 18-237D-4-13.
You must also notify the Department of Taxation in writing of the date the violation was corrected, as well as the Tax Registration ID number (or a URL link to where the registration number can be found), by mailing that information immediately to :

Failure to provide this written notification to the Department may subject you to citation, as well as a daily monetary fine of no less than $500.00 per day from the day the violation was first observed, until the day on which the Department verifies the violation remains uncorrected.
