PLANNING COMMISSION

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of a public hearing to be held by the Planning Commission of the City and County of Honolulu:

PLACE: In-person and Remote Meeting at Mission Memorial Auditorium,
Mission Memorial Building, 550 South King Street, Honolulu, Hawaii
DATE: Wednesday, August 23, 2023
TIME: 1:30 p.m.

The meeting of the Honolulu Planning Commission will be conducted as follows:
Remotely by interactive conference technology and in-person meetings, with Planning Commissioners, the DPP staff, parties to agenda items and principal individuals may appear via WebEx remote technology (details below)
A recording of the meeting will also be posted at a later date
If any major and insurmountable technical difficulties are encountered during the meeting, the Planning Commission will automatically recess for up to thirty (30) minutes to restore communication. The meeting will reconvene when either audiovisual or audio-only communication is established with the same WebEx link below. If it is not possible to reconvene the meeting as provided within thirty (30) minutes after an interruption to communication, the Planning Commission will continue all matters and reconvene at the next scheduled Planning Commission meeting

PUBLIC HEARING
Public hearing notice published in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on August 11, 2023. The Commission will take action on each item after public hearing is closed.

1. RELATING TO REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS FOR BED AND BREAKFASTS AND TRANSIENT VACATION UNITS

The Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) has proposed a draft Bill to streamline registration requirements. Ordinance 22-7 was signed on April 26, 2022, by Mayor Rick Blangiardi to regulate bed and breakfasts and transient vacation units (commonly referred as short term rentals [STRs]). The Ordinance included a registration requirement for STRs in the Resort District, Resort Mixed Use Precinct, and certained mapped Apartment Districts and Precincts.

2. RELATING TO LARGE DWELLINGS

The Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) has proposed a draft Bill to increase monster home fines.

NOTE: The Planning Commission will ONLY be reviewing the amendments associated with Chapter 21 (The Land Use Ordinance).

Attendance at the public hearing is not necessary to submit written testimony.
