OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU’s (the “City”) SECTION 8 HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER WAIT LIST
The City and County of Honolulu is opening its Wait List for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance to eligible households. Only online pre-applications will be accepted from Monday, February 6, 2023, 7:45 a.m., through Friday, February 10, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. Submitted pre-applications will be randomized, and through a lottery, 3,000 selected applications will be placed on the waiting list. There is no first-come, first-served advantage, and only one application will be allowed per household. There is no guarantee for eligibility or housing assistance after applying.

Devices such as smart phones, tablets, and computers with internet access may be used. For those without internet access, the following sites are allowing the public use of computers. Please follow COVID19 safety protocols at the site, if applicable, including social distancing and wearing a face mask at all times.

Pre-applications will only be accepted online. To prepare and submit a pre-application:
1. You must have a valid email address to apply.
2. Have the names, dates of birth, and social security numbers available for all household members. You will also need the monthly gross income (before taxes) for each source of income for all persons listed on your pre-application. You must list all sources of income individually. Please review the income limit table to check for eligibility.
3. Complete the pre-application online at https://tinyurl.com/oahuhcv
4. Submit the pre-application online between Monday, February 6, 2023, 7:45 a.m. through Friday, February 10, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. The website will close precisely at 4:30 p.m.
5. Your confirmation receipt will be emailed to you.

No duplicate applications will be accepted. A duplicate application found with same or similar household members will have all applications denied. Prior to adding any households to the Wait List, the City will screen for any duplication.
Within 30-60 days following the closing of the Wait List, applicants will be able to check their application status. Go to www.waitlistcheck.com and follow the instructions for status of the pre-application. “HOLD” means that the random selection process has not been completed yet. “ACTIVE” means that your pre-application was selected and has been placed on the Wait List. “INACTIVE” means that your pre-application was not selected and you have not been placed on the Wait List. An email notification will be sent to all selected applicants.
