DIRECTOR, DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION, CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU:

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi is accepting applicants for Director of the City and County of Honolulu Department of Design and Construction (DDC). DDC is the lead city department responsible for the design, construction and repair of the city’s infrastructure and facilities and the Director leads a team of approximately 240 employees divided into 4 major divisions: Mechanical/Electrical, Facilities, Civil and Land.

The Director of Design and Construction shall be a registered architect or a registered professional engineer and shall have had a minimum of five years of training and experience in an architectural or engineering position, at least three years of which shall have been in a responsible administrative capacity. Applicants must meet HRS 78-1 residency requirements for appointive positions.

The successful applicant will (a) lead and manage an efficient and professional organization that is focused on doing the right project at the right time and at the right cost, always keeping at the forefront the obligation to be good stewards of public funds, (b) have excellent program management skills and the ability to ensure effective planning, design, project/construction management and inspection and (c) have experience with federal, state and county funded CIP (Capital Improvement Program) construction projects, from application for funds to project management and execution through completion. Prior experience successfully leading similar large, complex construction and engineering organizations is highly recommended.
