OF 1966 AS AMENDED (2006)
Mahoe Street Improvements

Notice is hereby given that the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Transportation Services (DTS), in cooperation
with the Federal Highway Administration and State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, proposes road improvements
to Mahoe Street between Waipahu and Hina Streets. This federally funded DTS project is considered a federal action and
undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). The
work will occur primarily within road rights-of-way for Mahoe and Waipahu Streets and extends into side-street rights-ofway
at Mahoe Place and Hapapa, Huakai, Hiapo, and Hina Streets, as well as adjacent areas.
Improvements will consist of the renovation/refinish and possible replacement, if warranted, of existing sidewalks; new
street light installations at the following intersections: Mahoe and Waipahu Streets, Mahoe and Hapapa Streets, Mahoe
Street and Mahoe Place, Mahoe and Huakai Streets, and Mahoe and Hiapo Streets; relocation of existing traffic and
pedestrian signals at Mahoe and Waipahu Streets; installation of speed tables on Mahoe Street near the intersections
with Mahoe Place and Huakai and Hiapo Streets; drainage modifications and excavations for drainage additions at Mahoe
Place and Hapapa, Huakai, Hiapo, and Hina Streets; and curb extensions (or bulbouts) at the intersections of Mahoe Street
with Mahoe Place and Waipahu, Hapapa, Huakai, Hiapo and Hina Streets. In addition, the removal, repainting, and addition
of street striping throughout the project area is anticipated. See location map.
Pursuant to Section 106 of the NHPA, Native Hawaiian Organizations and Native Hawaiian descendants with ancestral,
lineal or cultural ties to, cultural and historic property knowledge of and/or concerns for, and cultural or religious attachment
to the proposed project area are requested to contact DTS. Other individuals and organizations with demonstrated legal,
economic or historic preservation interest in the undertaking are asked to contact DTS and share information you may
have on historical and cultural sites that you may have knowledge of within the proposed APE. Interested participants are
