CITY AUDITOR
City and County of Honolulu
The Honolulu City Council is seeking applicants for appointment as the City Auditor.
This position directs the day-to-day executive management of the Office of the City Auditor.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Office of the City Auditor are to conduct: financial audits of the City; performance audits of the funds, programs, and operations of any agency or operation of the City as requested by the Council by resolution and performance audits as determined by the City Auditor; and follow up audits and monitoring of compliance with audit recommendations. All audits are conducted in accordance with government auditing standards. The City Auditor oversees the annual financial audit contract of the City and County of Honolulu with the certified public accounting firm contracted to perform the audit.
Experience and qualifications of the ideal candidate are:
Certification as a certified internal auditor or certified public accountant, or have an advanced degree in a relevant field.
Possession of at least five years of experience in the field of government auditing, evaluation, or analysis.
Certified internal auditor or certified public accountant preferred.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or public administration or related field.
A Council search committee shall review the applicants and forward its recommendation to the City Council. The Council shall appoint the City Auditor to a term of six (6) years by adoption of a resolution. Compensation rate is comparable to City department heads at $166,560 per annum and benefits are similar to those earned by civil service employees. The vacancy is anticipated to be filled by July 2021.
