NOTICE OF ELECTION FOR A SEAT ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE EMPLOYEES’ RETIREMENT SYSTEM OF THE STATE OF HAWAl’I An election will be conducted for one seat on the Board of Trustees of the Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Hawai’i (the Retirement System), pursuant to Section 88-24, Hawai’i Revised Statutes, and Chapter 6-24, Hawai’i Administrative Rules. The one seat is for a teacher. The term for the seat is for six years, beginning January 2, 2022. TEACHER A teacher is a member of the Retirement System who is classified as a “teacher”. The term “teacher” includes teachers or an educational officer certified as a teacher by the Department of Education, and includes a dean, professor instructor, and lecturer of the University of Hawai’i and the community college system. A teacher organization is an organization classified as an employee organization under Section 89-2, Hawai’i Revised Statutes, comprised principally of members who are teachers. NOMINATIONS Each of the teacher organizations may submit a list of candidates whose name the teacher organization desires to have on the ballot for the teacher seat, together with resumes of their qualifications. The resume of each candidate may contain not more than one hundred words, inclusive of the name of the candidate. Any teacher who has not been proposed as a candidate by the teacher organizations, and who desires to be a candidate for the teacher seat may have their name placed on the ballot by submitting a petition and a resume of their qualifications. The petition shall be accompanied by the signatures of at least one hundred members or retirants of the Retirement System who desire to have the teacher’s name on the ballot. The signatures shall be obtained on a form provided by the Retirement System, and shall be accompanied by the social security number, address, and current or former employing agency of each person signing the petition, and shall be certified by the petitioner. The resume may contain not more than one hundred words, inclusive of the name of the candidate. DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS Lists of candidates proposed by teacher organizations, with resumes of the candidates, and the petition of any other candidate, with the candidate’s resume, must be received by the Retirement System at its Honolulu office no later than 4:30 p.m. on June 14, 2021.
