This federally funded HDOT project is considered a federal action and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). HDOT proposes to construct safety improvements to the highway by rebuilding eroded backslopes, removing and replacing existing guardrail, guardrail end treatments and reflector markers, grading, grubbing and paving under guardrails in 21 non-contiguous locations along Route 50, Kaumualii Highway from Mile Post 2.10 to Mile Post 4.46.
