The Kaua’i County Fire Commission invites highly qualified, service-oriented, and motivated individuals of the highest integrity and ethics to submit a comprehensive resume of their educational and professional qualifications for the position of Fire Chief for the County of Kaua’i Fire Department.
Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) years of training and experience in fire prevention and operations in private industry or government service, at least three (3) years of which have been in a responsible administrative capacity.
The Fire Chief must be a citizen of the United States, must be willing to establish residence in the County of Kaua’i and upon hire, reside and continue to reside in the County of Kaua’i, and possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
¶ The resumes be no more than five pages and be limited to one page of training (education) classes, a cover letter and no more than five pages of personal/professional references and letters of recommendation and absolutely no photographs.
¶ Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Administration, or Business Administration, or in lieu of a bachelor’s degree years of experience as a Deputy Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Fire Captain and Battalion Chief will also be considered.
The Fire Chief has significant interaction with the public and with federal, state, county, and private agencies, and administers, supervises, directs, and manages all daily operations of the Kaua’i Fire Department. The Fire Chief must be able to communicate effectively, must demonstrate skills in leadership and goal achievement, and must possess interpersonal skills that foster trust and establish positive working relationships with diverse cultural groups, the community, subordinates, the Fire Commission, peers, and governmental entities.
In addition to managing the department’s operations, the Fire Chief will be expected to work with the Fire Commission and assist the Commission in the execution of its duties as prescribed by the Charter of the County of Kaua’i.
