NOTICE OF ELECTION FOR SEATS ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE EMPLOYEES’ RETIREMENT SYSTEM OF THE STATE OF HAWAI’I

An election will be conducted for two seats on the Board of Trustees of the Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Hawai’i (the Retirement System), pursuant to Section 88-24, Hawai’i Revised Statutes, and Chapter 6-24, Hawai’i Administrative Rules. One seat is for a general employee and one seat is for a retirant. The term for each seat is for six years, beginning January 2, 2020.

GENERAL EMPLOYEE

A general employee is any member of the Retirement System who is classified as a general employee. The term “general employee” includes police officers and firefighters but does not include teachers, educational officers, or faculty and instructors of the University of Hawai’i. A general employee organization is an organization classified as an employee organization under Section 89-2, Hawai’i Revised Statutes, comprised principally of members who are general employees.

RETIRANT

A retirant is a retirant of the Retirement System. A retirant organization is an organization comprised principally of retirants.

NOMINATIONS

Candidates for the general employee seat may be proposed by general employee organizations. Candidates for the retirant seat may be proposed by employee organizations and retirant organizations. Lists of proposed candidates submitted by general employee organizations, by employee organizations or by retirant organizations should be submitted with the resume of the qualifications of each candidate. The resume of each candidate may not contain more than one hundred words, including the name of the candidate.

A general employee or retirant who has not been proposed as a candidate by a general employee organization, by an employee organization or by a retirant organization, as applicable, may have his or her name placed on the ballot by submitting a petition complying with section 6-24-3, Hawai’i Administrative Rules, to the Board of Trustees, together with a resume of the qualifications of the candidate. The resume may not contain more than one hundred words, including the name of the candidate.

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS

Lists of candidates proposed by general employee organizations, by employee organizations or by retirant organizations, with resumes of the candidates, and the petition of any other candidate, with the candidate’s resume, must be received by the Retirement System at its Honolulu office no later than 4:30pm on June 25, 2019.
