NOTICE OF CONSULTATION
SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT OF 1966
AS AMENDED (2006)
KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY RESURFACING FROM KAILUA ROAD TO OLOMANA GOLF COURSE
DISTRICT OF KOOLAUPOKO, ISLAND OF OAHU, AHUPUAA OF KAILUA & WAIMANALO

Notice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State of Hawaii Department of
Transportation (HDOT), Highways Division propose an asphalt pavement resurfacing project. This proposed project
is a federal funded HDOT project. It will be considered a federal action and undertaking, as defined by Section
106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). The project is located along
Kalanianaole Highway, Route 72, between Kailua Road and Olomana Golf Course. The scope of work consists
of resurfacing the existing pavement; cold planing; reconstruction of weakened pavement areas, existing bus
pads, existing grated drop inlet, and a culvert headwall; slope stabilization; construction of a concrete retaining
wall; installation of new guardrails with end treatments, rumble strips, striping, pavement markings, drain covers,
and permanent traffic counting station; installation, maintenance, monitoring and removal of BMPs; installation
of additional water pollution, dust and erosion control; vertical adjustment of utility manholes; and upgrading of
existing guardrails, and end treatments. The Area of Potential Effects will fall within the existing state right-of-way.
Pursuant of Section 106 of the NHPA, Native Hawaiian Organizations and Native Hawaiian descendants with
ancestral, lineal or cultural ties to, cultural knowledge or concerns for, and cultural or religious attachment to the
proposed project area or if other individuals and organizations are interested in participating in the Section 106
