OF LUALUALEI, HONOULIULI, NANAKULI AND MOKULEIA STATE
FOREST RESERVES, KALUANUI AND MOUNT KAALA STATE NATURAL
AREA RESERVES

The Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Department of Land and Natural Resources, State of Hawai’i, will conduct animal control activities, specifically aerial shooting from helicopters for feral goats (only) within the Lualualei Forest Reserve, Honouliuli Forest Reserve and Mokuleia Forest Reserve. Aerial shooting from helicopters for feral pigs within the Kaluanui Natural Area Reserve. Aerial shooting from helicopters for feral goats and pigs with in the Mount Kaala Natural Area Reserve.
Scheduled control operations are as follows: October 16 and 17, November 7 and 8 and December 12 and 13, 2018 On the above listed dates, public access to the above listed State Forest Reserves, Natural Area Reserves and all Na Ala Hele program trails within these land areas will be restricted. Access allowed BY PERMIT ONLY, pursuant to [Forest Reserves: HAR§ 13-104-23(a)(3); Natural Area Reserves: HAR§13-209-4.5, and NAH trails and access: HAR§ 13-130-19(a)(5)].
Aerial shooting is required to control animal populations in the subject areas for the
conservation of watersheds, threatened and endangered species, and native ecosystems. The temporary closure is needed to minimize the dangers of incompatible uses in the same area and safely allow completion of the animal control activities.
A map illustrating the areas subject to aerial shooting on these dates is available for inspection at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife Oahu District Office, 2135 Makiki Heights Drive, Honolulu HI, 96822.
