NOTICE OF PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD-TOTAL MAXIMUM DAILY LOADS (TMDLs) FOR WAIKELE WATERSHED, ISLAND OF OAHU, HAWAII

The State of Hawaii, Department of Health (DOH) requests public comments on the proposed total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) of turbidity, sediment, and nutrients for the Waikele Watershed, Oahu, under §303(d) and §303(e) of the Federal Clean Water Act, 33 U.S.Code §1313(d) and §1313(e), and 40 CFR §130.7 and §130.5. The draft document, entitled “Turbidity, Sediment and Nutrient Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for the Waikele Watershed, Oahu, Hawaii" identifies point and nonpoint sources of water pollution, specifies the reductions necessary to meet water quality standards, and provides waste load and load allocations for each identified source. The proposed decision document will affect water pollution control permits and provide guidance for other planning and regulatory approvals within the Waikele watershed.

The draft document will also be available for public review Monday through Friday between 7:45 am and 4:30 pm in the CWB office, and District Health Offices (DHOs) on Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui:

All comments must be received in writing no later than 4:30 pm on Thursday, August 30, 2018. Written comments postmarked by this deadline will also be accepted. Send comments to the Program Manager, Clean Water Branch, State of Hawaii Department of Health, located at 2827 Waimano Home Road #225, Pearl City, Hawaii 96782, or CleanWaterBranch@doh.hawaii.gov. Public comments and the DOH response will be used to revise the draft decision document, as necessary, for final EPA approval of the proposed TMDLs.
