NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

APPLICATION OF HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC.
FOR APPROVAL TO CONSTRUCT AN OVERHEAD SUBTRANSMISSION LINE

Docket No. 2018-0056

The STATE OF HAWAII PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (“Commission”), pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §§ 269-27.5 and 269-27.6(a), HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that it will hold a public hearing relating to the Application of HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC. (“HECO”), filed on March 8, 2018, for Commission approval to extend an existing 46 kilovolt (“kV”) overhead subtransmission line (the “Overhead Extension Project”) along Charlie Road in Kahuku on Oahu.

The public hearing will be held as follows:

Monday, August 20, 2018, at 5:30 p.m.
Kahuku Elementary School Cafeteria
56-170 Pualalea Street
Kahuku, Hawaii 96731

The Overhead Extension Project was initiated at the request of Mauka FIT One, LLC (“Mauka FIT One”) in order to accommodate the development and installation of a Tier 3 Feed-In Tariff 3.5 megawatt solar farm on real property situated in Kahuku on Oahu. Mauka FIT One has requested that an existing 46 kV overhead subtransmission line be extended above the surface of the ground along Charlie Road (which is owned by Continental Pacific LLC and Kahuku Wind Power LLC), where it would connect to a substation for the solar farm. The overhead extension work consists of the installation of: (1) twenty-two 65-foot poles; (2) five 35-foot stub poles; (3) two 46 kV group operated switches; and (4) approximately 3,400 circuit feet of #3/0 AAAC 46 kV overhead conductors. The estimated cost of the Overhead Extension Project is approximately $1,049,681. Mauka FIT One will pay for the cost of the Overhead Extension Project, as well as for all the total estimated interconnection costs under the Mauka FIT One Tier 3 Feed-In Tariff Power Purchase Agreement. Construction of HECO’s facilities for the Overhead Extension Project is expected to start in February 2019 and be completed by April 2019.
Copies of HECO’s Application are available for public review through the Commission’s electronic Document Management System, accessible at http://dms.puc.hawaii.gov/dms/. In addition, copies of HECO’s Application are also available for review by contacting HECO [(808) 548-7311], the Commission’s Honolulu Office [(808) 586-2020], or the Division of Consumer Advocacy [(808) 586-2800].
