NOTICE

VIDEO MONITORING FOR WAIKIKI AND DOWNTOWN HONOLULU

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to Section 2-32.3(b)(5), Revised Ordinances of Honolulu that the City and County of Honolulu (City) will be installing video monitoring cameras to monitor areas in Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu. These cameras will be employed for the general prevention and deterrence of criminal activity and to ensure the safety and security of the public and community we serve. The video monitoring cameras will be used to achieve legitimate law enforcement objectives for legitimate public purposes. The video monitoring cameras will begin operating and recording no less than 10 calendar days after publication of this legal notice.

The General Public may submit written comments on the video monitoring to the Honolulu City Council and the Department of Facility Maintenance at the following addresses:

CAMERA LOCATIONS AT WAIKIKI AND DOWNTOWN HONOLULU

A total of 44 monitoring cameras will be installed along: Kalakaua Avenue; Kuhio Avenue; Ala Wai Boulevard; Monsarrat Avenue; Kalia Road; Kapahulu Avenue; Hobron Lane; Holomoana Street; Ala Wai Boat Harbor and Wai Nani Way in Waikiki. A total of four (4) monitoring cameras will be installed around the Hawaii State Capitol and Iolani Palace along: South Beretania Street and South King Street; and one (1) monitoring camera will be installed in Chinatown along Hotel Street. The pan/tilt/zoom cameras will be installed at various locations in those areas, along the previously listed streets and will be monitored by the Honolulu Police Department, and the Aloha Ambassador volunteers from the Waikiki Business Improvement District Association except for the cameras located around the Hawaii State Capitol, Iolani Palace, and Chinatown.
