COUNTY OF HAWAI’I SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR STEWARDSHIP GRANTS
TO MAINTAIN & PRESERVE LANDS ACQUIRED WITH MONIES
FROM THE PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE, AND NATURAL
RESOURCES PRESERVATION FUND (FUND)

 

The County of Hawai’i, Department of Finance is seeking applicants for stewardship grants to provide grants-in-aid for public safety maintenance and preservation of lands acquired by the FUND as stipulated in the Hawai’i County Charter, Article 10, Section 10-16 (h). Only 501(c)3 non-profits or an organization that operates under the umbrella of a 501(c)3 non-profit shall be considered for a stewardship grant. Grants will be accepted online through the County’s new Grants Management System. To learn more about the PONC Stewardship Grant visit https://www.openspace.hawaiicounty.gov/stewardship-grants. As part of the grant application, the applicant must submit a detailed business plan for the project along with a signed agreement to file written reports within one year after receipt of funds on what has been accomplished and how the money was spent. Below is a list of lands for which we are currently accepting requests.

 

Property information is available online at http://www.openspace.hawaiicounty.gov or the Property Management Division’s office located in the County Building, 25 Aupuni Street, Suite 1002, Hilo, Hawai’i 96720. Applicants must comply with all provisions of Hawai’i County Charter Article 10, Section 10-16, in addition to all applicable County, State, and Federal laws. Grant awards are for one year. The deadline to submit completed applications is 4:30 p.m. (County of Hawai’i time clock, Hawai’i Standard Time) on Saturday August 15, 2026.
