COUNTY OF HAWAI`I OFFICE OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INFORMATION ON HOUSING ASSISTANCE WAITING LISTS FOR VERY- LOW INCOME FAMILIES Families must be at or below: 2020 HUD Income Limits Number of Household Members 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 29,200 33,350 37,500 41,650 45,000 48,350 51,650 55,000 Housing Choice Vouchers (formerly Section 8) remains restricted. Applications will continue to be accepted by REFERRAL ONLY for: 1. HUD-VASH to assist homeless veterans through the HUD Veterans Assistance for Supportive Housing (VASH) Program. This program is in partnership with the U.S. Veterans Administration. Please call 1-800-214-1306 if you have any questions about this program. Applicants for this program will be initially screened by the VA. 2. Mainstream Vouchers to assist non-elderly persons with disabilities. Applications are limited to homeless persons referred by the local Continuum of Care-Coordinated Entry System. 3. Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) to serve homeless youth under the age of 25 with a history of child welfare involvement. This program is in partnership with the Department of Human Services, Social Services Division, Child Welfare Services Branch. Applicants for this program will be initially screened by and referred through the Department of Human Services, SSD-CWSB. Applications that do not meet the above exceptions will not be accepted. Also, very low-income families may apply for rental assistance for future openings at properties listed below: Kulaimano Elderly Housing ProjectIndependent Living Housing Project for Elderly and Disabled, in Kulaimano Heights Subdivision, Pepe’ekeo. 50 single-story, one-bedroom, one-bath apartment units. Applicant or spouse or sole member MUST be at least 62 years of age, disabled or handicapped. 50 applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. Five units are reserved for non-elderly disabled, however, elderly with a disability will receive priority. (To apply, see link below) Kino’ole Senior Residences30 one-bedroom, one-bath, apartment units for very low-income seniors on the corner of Kino’ole and Kahaopea Streets in Hilo. Single, three story building with an elevator, ADA and Fair Housing accessible. 50 applications will be accepted by random selection for Project Based Voucher assistance. (To apply see link below) E Komo Mai ApartmentsMultifamily apartment community on corner of Kino’ole and Hualalai Streets in Hilo. 45 one and two bedrooms, one-bath units. Applications for Project Based Voucher assistance are limited to families referred by Big Island Housing Foundation only. Please call (808) 969-3327 if you have questions about applying. Residential Repair ProgramProvides low cost loans up to $25,000 to resident homeowner/occupants of single- family properties. Loans permit homeowners to make property repairs, improvements, or upgrades to their primary residence. 50 applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.
