NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
LANAI PLANNING COMMISSION

The Lanai Planning Commission of the County of Maui hereby provides notice of a public hearing on October 21, 2020, commencing at 5:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as is practicable via the BlueJeans videoconferencing platform or at the Lanai Senior Center, 309 Seventh Street, Lanai City, Lanai, Hawaii, 96763 on the following matter:

SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA USE PERMIT AND PROJECT DISTRICT
PHASE 2 DEVELOPMENT APPROVAL

MR. BRYAN ESMERALDA OF MUNEKIYO HIRAGA, on behalf of LANA’I ESTATES, LLC, requesting a Special Management Area Use Permit and Project District Phase 2 Development Approval for the development of Kaluako’i Estates, a private residential project located in the Manele Project District. The project is located on 10.09 acres at Mauna Lei Drive, Manele District, Lana’i City, Island of Lana’i, Tax Map Keys (2) 4-9-017:014, 015, 016, 017, and 018. The project encompasses five single family residences, carports, and utility buildings, as well as accessory buildings and improvements such as two swimming pools and two spas, a koi pond, and home theater. In addition, utility connections, landscaping, and security walls are proposed. Upon securing the required regulatory approvals, construction will be initiated in a phased approach. The subject public hearing will be conducted in accordance with the Hawaii Revised Statutes, the Maui County Code, and Rules of the Lanai Planning Commission, and/or as they may be suspended by Mayoral or Gubernatorial Emergency Proclamation. Information pertaining to the subject application may be obtained from the Maui County Planning Department, 2200 Main Street, Suite 315, Wailuku, Maui or planning@mauicounty.gov if offices are closed to the public. Copies of the subject application will be mailed to any interested person who requests a copy and pays the required fees for copying and postage.

Unless otherwise specified by another planning commission rule, any petition to intervene as a formal party in the proceedings before the Commission must be filed with the Commission and served upon the applicant no less than ten (10) days before the first public hearing date. Filing of all documents to the Commission is c/o the Maui Planning Department, 2200 Main Street, Suite 315, Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii 96793. The deadline for the filing of a timely Petition to Intervene if the first public hearing date is October 21, 2020 is October 7, 2020.

All testimony regarding the application may be filed prior to the date of the hearing by providing 15 copies of said written testimony to the Department Planning if offices are open to the public, or via email if offices are closed, or may be presented at said hearing if the hearing is held in person. Written testimony may be submitted by mail to: Planning Department, 2200 Main Street, Suite 315, Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii 96793 or by email to planning@mauicounty.gov. Written testimony must be received by the Planning Department by noon, one business day before the hearing to ensure distribution to the commission. Further information will be provided on the posted meeting agenda.
